Hugo Pratt lived in many cities including Venice, Buenos Aires, Cordoba and more. With a French-English father, a Venetian mother, and Jewish grandparents who emigrated from Turkey to Murano – the fusing of the world’s cultures attracted Pratt to cities and ports worldwide. With his background, it’s not surprising that Hugo Pratt made Corto Maltese the son of a British sailor and a gypsy who grew up in a Jewish neighborhood in Cordoba. Corto sprang from the imagination of a creative outcast and today Corto’s character is part of our history.
